About the facilitator... |
|
Jessi began facilitating performing arts classes, workshops and camps as early as her teen years (and she's 52 now so you do the math) and has created many safe, fun and accessible creative and learning opportunities for all ages, babies through to seniors. She has offered professional development workshops for teachers, creative camps for school age kids and developed musical theatre programs and trained arts educators. She is skilled at customizing team building experiences that would be suitable for professional growth, personal development and group morale building to uplevel communication, trust and sense of "team". She holds her Bachelor of Music Education which has lead her to working both privately and within the public school system.
Since when do adults participate in creative camps?
Funny you should ask! We believe that as people get older, they often let go of creativity that they may have been offered in high school or University... but it doesn't have to be that way! Regardless of age, every human being is naturally creative if nurtured properly. It doesn't have to be career oriented - can just be for the purposes of having fun and being creative for the sake of it!
How will a camp or workshop benefit me?
A camp or workshop experience provides each participant with the opportunity to step outside of their day to day world and into a creative space where you can leave everything at home and allow yourself to step into the unknown - an inclusive, non-judgemental and accepting space for trying new things, taking risks and learning about yourself. Sometimes activities can feel a little vulnerable, especially if it's something you've never tried - but taking small risks can improve self confidence, build resilience and remind you that FUN is still important!
What kinds of activities would be included?
Each camp or workshop is custom built for the client but we do have many favourite creative activities including: circle games (focus, communication, speed, etc), team building (problem solving, encouragement, working toward a goal, etc) trust (risk taking, relying on others, taking chances, vulnerability, etc) and other activities including work with poetry+movement, face/body painting (non sexual), drama games, role play, word play, story telling activities as well as visual art activities (we provide supplies) etc.
We will include activities that feel relevant and appropriate to your staff development day - or to the group of adults who sign up for our events - so that there is alignment. We want everyone to feel comfortable, safe and included.

What if someone is uncomfortable participating in an activity?
We encourage self care in every moment. For numerous reasons, sometimes an activity will not feel right for an individual. We do address this at the very beginning of any camp or workshop - and ask that if someone needs to step back from an activity, that they just do it quietly, sitting to the side, and then join in again once comfortable.

What should people wear for camps and workshops?
We suggest wearing comfy clothing easy to move in. Yoga apparel, sweatsuit, shorts and T-Shirt, etc is fine. Be sure that if wearing a skirt or dress that you have leggings underneath. We also recommend no low cut tops in the spirit of body safety. We do recommend working in sock feet if space is carpeted or hardwood/dance floor. However if concrete floor we recommend shoes.
Do I need to bring anything?
Yes! Water bottles, nut free snacks, optional yoga mat, optional light blanket, a journal and pencil/pen. Depending on whether or not workplace is providing lunch - you may need to pack your lunch. WE DO ASK ALL STAFF COORDINATORS CHECK FOR ALLERGIES IN ADVANCE.
Do you hold camps and workshops in your own space?
With enough advance notice, we have the option to book a space in a pro studio in the heart of Uptown in New West, IDIO studios. However, depending on number of participants and desired geographic location, we can explore other spaces. It's easiest for us to come to your workplace if possible.
